White lies – York hall 22/11/2010

by Max on November 23, 2010

Soooo last night me and my five housemates trotted down to historic venue, York hall in Bethnal green to watch WHITE LIES preview their new album! It’s been a while since  this epic 3-piece (5 whilst live) released their debut album ’To Lose My Life’ in January 2009 which went to number one. Previewing their second album, ‘Ritual’, which  is set for release in January 2011, White Lies interspersed a mixture of favourites with eight unfamiliar songs. Whilst the new songs started, the crowd were quiet (maybe due to a somewhat unassuming stage presence or simply just to not relating to the material) until realising the shear skill and progression that the band have made by  jumping around and applauding crazily. It definatly seems like 2011 will be shaping up rather well for this awesome band. I loved the venue (famous for live boxing matches) for live music due to its unobstructed views, clarity of sound and White lies also had a great set of backlights which really helped the atmosphere of the room. Here’s the setlist
‘Is Love’
‘Strangers’
‘Bigger Than Us’
‘To Lose My Life’
‘Holy Ghost’
‘Peace & Quiet’
‘Unfinished Business’
‘Streetlights’
‘The Power & The Glory’
‘Bad Love’
‘Death’
‘A Place To Hide’
‘Farewell To The Fairground’ (CHOOON)

I think this picture kinda sums up how I felt….We all then drunkenly set out into the cold for a 2 minute walk to the afterparty at The Approach tavern, the rest is a bit of a blur of beer and fried chicken. Hmm.
